FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: This information is intended to supplement, not replace, consultation with your physician regarding Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus Fillers. Please consult with Dr. Gold if you have additional questions or if you have questions that may not be covered in this section.

What makes Juvéderm different?  While other HA fillers on the market have a more granular consistency, Juvéderm injectable gel is the first smooth-consistency HA gel.  It's innovative manufacturing process gives Juvéderm its unique smooth-gel properties as well as an optimal gel structure that holds up over time.  That's why Juvéderm injectable gel is th only HA filler that't FDA appoved to last up to 1 year.  In addition Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC have Xylocaine mixed right in the filler.

Does it hurt? Before injecting Dr. Gold will anesthetize the area with anesthetic gel and cold packs.  In addition we recommend that you take two Extra-Strength Rapid Release Tylenol Caps about 30 minutes before your appointment.  The needle used is very tiny and you may feel just a little pinch.

Will there be bruising?  If you usually bruise with injections, there may be bruising with Juvéderm^® injectable gel.  If you take apirin or ibuprofen every day, or if you supplement with omega 3's, fish oil, or garlic every day, you should consider stopping those a few days before your appointment.  If you do have bruising, it is fine to use cover-up makeup to hide it and it should completely resolve within a couple of days to a couple of weeks.  If there is bruising, it does not diminish the effect of the Juvéderm injectable gel.

Is there any down time?  No the injection is a quick office procedure and you can return immediately to your normal activities. 

How long does it last?  Juvéderm injectable gel should last between 6 months and 1 year.  It is the only HA filler to be approved by the FDA to last 1 year.  This does not guarantee that it will last that long, but the FDA allows Allergan to make that claim.  It has been found that a second series with Juvéderm injectable gel will last substantially longer than the first.
